Saturday Craft-Tacular - Elemental Spell Pens
Welcome to the third edition of the Samhain’s Sirens
Saturday Craft-Tacular. Today we’ll be
working in the wonderful world of polymer clay. Polymer clay is a pretty forgiving
medium. After the clay has been
conditioned an artist can take their tie creating the piece because this clay
needs to be baked to harden. Polymer clay is an oil based clay and comes in hundreds of
colors.
Today we will be working with basic polymer clay colors and a standard stick ball point pen. So let’s get started making a set of Elemental Spell Pens.
Today we will be working with basic polymer clay colors and a standard stick ball point pen. So let’s get started making a set of Elemental Spell Pens.
To being this project you’ll need the following supplies:

- Polymer Clay heat bake glue
- Polymer Clay in elemental colors - I used Red, Yellow, Blue, Green, White and Silver.
- Stick pens with removable barrel
- Polymer Clay Glaze
- Fan folded card stock
- Oven for baking
Instructions
Start out by conditioning your
clay. Knead the clay back and forth
through your hands until it becomes soft and pliable.
Slide the inside portion of the pen
out leaving only the outer plastic barrel.

Cover the outside of the barrel
with polymer clay heat bake glue.
Roll out the conditioned clay and
cover the outside of the pen over the glue.

Use this time to insert a jewelry
pen in the end of the pen to add the charm later.

Take the accent clay and decorate
the outside of the barrel. Remember to
think about where your fingers will go on the outside of the clay.

I fan-folded a piece of card stock
to place the decorated pens in to bake.
Bake the pens per the package
instructions.

I did a light sand on the “Fire”
pen to tone down the red just a bit.
I then used a polymer clay glaze
to cover the pen barrels.

After the glaze has dried insert
the pen portion back into the barrel.

Finally add the charms at the end
of your pens.
I simply repeated the process for each of the Elemental
Spell Pens until I had a complete set. I
hope you've enjoyed this tutorial. If
you'd like to see more of my stuff head over to my Facebook Page.
